How Can You Get a Better Jawline?

Excess fat below the chin, popularly known as a double chin, can be hard to get rid of because it doesn’t respond to diet and exercise. So how can you get a better jawline?

Kybella® and CoolSculpting® are non-surgical procedures that can minimize your double chin and improve your jawline.

What is Kybella®?

Kybella® is a prescription medication that can melt away your double chin (submental fat). It is FDA approved to reduce the appearance of moderate to severe fat below the chin. The active ingredient in Kybella® is deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally-occurring compound in the body.

The Procedure

Your Kybella® session will involve a series of small injections in the area below the chin. Injecting Kybella® into the fat breaks down the membrane of the fat cells, causing them to dissolve.

A typical Kybella® treatment takes 30-45 minutes. Patients generally need 2-3 Kybella® sessions to fully treat the area. Sessions are spaced 8-12 weeks apart.

What Results Can I Expect with Kybella®?

There may be some post-procedural swelling in the targeted area for about 4-5 days after treatment. Therefore, if you have a special event coming up, it’s best to plan your Kybella® treatment early. When the swelling resolves, your submental fat will be reduced leading to a leaner-looking side profile.

What is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® is a minimally invasive treatment that uses controlled cooling technology known as cryolipolysis to reduce fat below the chin.

The Procedure

During treatment, the CoolSculpting® applicator is placed under the chin area, and the cold temperatures freeze the fat cells. Fat cells are more susceptible to cold than the other cells, so CoolSculpting® does not harm the surrounding cells, organs, nerves, and tissue.

The frozen fat cells eventually crystallize and die and are naturally removed from the body in the weeks following treatment.

A typical CoolSculpting®  treatment takes about 45 minutes.

What Results Can I Expect with CoolSculpting®?

The results of CoolSculpting® typically take a few weeks to show because the body takes time to eliminate the treated fat cells.

Initial improvements can be seen as soon as four weeks after treatment, but it typically takes 1-3 months to see results. Once the damaged fat cells are removed, the chin area will be noticeably slimmer and more contoured.

The results of Kybella® and CoolSculpting® can last a long time if you maintain your weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
