What Causes Acne Scars?

Breakouts come and go but the scars they leave behind can last for years. Acne scars are the remains of inflamed pimples and occur when the pore becomes engorged with a mixture of excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. This combination stresses the inside of the pore and can cause a break in the follicle wall. When this happens, it damages healthy tissue and can leave a scar.

Are There Different Types Of Acne Scars?

Yes, indeed there are varying degrees of scars. Even after a pimple is completely healed, the delicate facial skin often retains scarring or discoloration. The most common types of acne scarring include:

Ice pick scars

Ice pick scars are narrow depressions in the skin, and often form on the cheeks.

Boxcar scars

Boxcar scars tend to be larger with sharp edges. Common on the jaw and lower cheeks.

Rolling scars

Rolling scars look like waves on the skin. They can require multiple solutions to treat effectively.

Hypertrophic Scars & Keloids

Hypertrophic scars & Keloids are raised lumps of scar tissue; often bigger than the actual pimple.

Can Laser Treatments Reduce My Scarring?

Pico laser resurfacing is a great way to target damaged skin while leaving healthy skin cells untouched. Pico laser treatments are fast and precise. They target scar tissue in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, eradicating the problem at the source. Pico laser treatments stimulate the skin to produce collagen, a vital protein needed to keep skin healthy.

Can Chemical Peels Help To Erase My Scars?

Yes. Chemical peels strip away the top layer of the skin and encourage the production of collagen and elastin. Once the old, damaged cells have been removed, healthy skin cells can come to the surface. This process happens naturally, but as we age it slows; chemical peels help stimulate the skin  cell turnover of your youth.

Is Scarlet Rf Microneedling Effective For Acne Scars?

Absolutely!  Scarlet RF combines short-pulse radio frequency (RF) (which causes heat) with microneedling to encourage collagen production in the skin, which improves skin texture and effectively reduces the appearance of acne scarring. Scarlet RF microneedling is safe for all skin types, which is important in a state like New Mexico. Treatments take 30 minutes or less and usually require multiple sessions.
