Hormones are essential for life and your health; scientists have identified over 50 hormones in the human body, and they all play a critical role in regulating the body. Hormones coordinate functions like sleep, weight gain, fertility, blood sugar, and fight or flight.

At Flawless Med Spa and Wellness, we’re holistically dedicated to your health, beauty, and well-being because we understand that they are all connected. Our goal is to give you information and education.  We want you to have a roadmap into what is happening inside your body at the chemical level and understand all the options to bring them into balance.

Meet Jason Muscari

Born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I began my educational journey at the University of New Mexico, where I was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. While at UNM, I majored in Elementary Education.  I graduated with my bachelor’s degree and moved to New York City, where I was a first-grade teacher at P.S. 19 Asher Levy School in the Lower Eastside of Manhattan.  While working as a teacher, I helped to supplement my income as an Emergency Medical Technician.  Working as an EMT, I found my true passion in the medical field.  After spending almost ten years in New York, I decided that New Mexico was where I wanted to build a career.

In 2015 I graduated from Brookline College, receiving my Bachelor of Nursing. Upon graduating, I started working at Presbyterian Hospital in the Emergency Department.  With the knowledge and skills obtained in the Emergency Department, I worked with Albuquerque Med Flight Air Ambulance as a Flight nurse and UNMH in the Medical Cardiac ICU. Most recently, I graduated with my master’s in nursing Family Nurse Practitioner.

During the pandemic, to help prevent burnout, I joined this incredible Flawless family.  I have been with Flawless for two years, and during this time, I have found a niche where I can incorporate my creative and medical passions into one blended career.  I started my hormone certification with the American Academy for Anti-Aging Medicine in 2022 and am excited to share my knowledge with my community.

Every one of us has moments we are concerned with and lack the confidence to let our true selves shine. Aesthetics is a field that has allowed me to help people gain the confidence to feel proud and secure in who they are. I look forward to working with our community members and helping them express their authentic selves!

What Are Hormones?

Flawless logo

Most hormones are produced by glands. Glands create important chemical messages that your cells can pass along to each other, including the:

  • Thyroid
  • Ovaries
  • Testes
  • Pineal
  • Hypothalamus

These messages play critical roles in helping the body to metabolize food, regulate body temperature, think clearly, and react quickly.  Indications of a hormonal imbalance include the following symptoms:

  • Brain fog
  • Weight gain
  • Lethargy
  • Low libido
  • Sporadic body temperature changes
  • Emotional instability

What is hormone replacement therapy?

Many of these symptoms can serve as a Catch-22.  For example, if you’re feeling anxious or depressed, you may feel less interested in pleasurable activities such as sex. Less physical intimacy with a partner can bring on additional stress or anxiety, especially if your partner’s libido continues as usual. Similarly, fatigue can keep you from exercising — which can then increase other effects of hormone imbalance, such as weight gain and reduced muscle mass. Thankfully, this can all turn around with appropriate treatment. By taking small amounts of estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone, you may feel better, which might impact your mental and emotional state.

Here at Flawless, we believe in a customized individual approach when it comes to hormone therapy.  We know that medical advancements have enabled people to live longer, with the average life expectancy in the US ranging from 74-80. BioIdentical hormones can help us live happier and healthier lives.

Why do Hormonal Imbalances Happen?

Hormone imbalances are extremely common, and people can experience imbalances as early as their thirties. This is because stress can be a triggering factor, and living in a COVID world has left everyone feeling stressed. Testing is the first step, and at Flawless Med Spa, we have partnered with a specialized lab to test for multiple hormones, including:

Genetics, environmental factors, and daily life can play a role when it comes to keeping hormones in sync.  When they are in check, we feel good, strong, and energetic.  A slight imbalance may not go noticed, but over time, an imbalance can add up, resulting in low energy, reduced libido, restless sleep, and weight gain.

How Do Hormone Imbalances Affect:

Men Women

The hormones in our bodies have distinct effects based on our unique anatomy and chemical makeup, so imbalances tend to affect men and women differently. Click the tabs and scroll to read more about how hormone imbalances affect men and women.

An imbalance in testosterone, cortisol, insulin, and thyroid hormones can affect men by causing excessive sweating and difficulty sleeping. Other ways that hormonal imbalances affect men include:

  • Sudden, unexplained weight loss
  • Headaches
  • Changes in heat and cold sensitivity
  • Dry skin or rashes
  • Changed heart rate and blood pressure
  • Irritability, anxiety, and depression
  • Brittle or weak bones
  • Unexplained, excessive fatigue

Hormone imbalances can cause many problems for women, such as period problems, unwanted hair growth, fertility struggles, weight gain, and difficulty sleeping. Women may also experience the following:

  • Acne
  • Difficulty losing extra weight
  • High heart rate and palpitations
  • Reduced energy levels
  • Increased exhaustion
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Hot flashes, excessive sweating, or intermittent chills
