Botox & Dysport are well-known treatments used to reduce facial wrinkles and relax muscles in the forehead, between the brows and around the eyes. Botox has been used since 2002 for cosmetic purposes and the nurses at Flawless have injected thousands of patients. In 2009, Dysport entered the U.S. market reporting the same benefits as Botox. The two products are comparable in terms of efficacy and price. The effects from Botox and Dysport last about 3 months. The main difference between the two is how the product is mixed; a patient will need 2.5 times more Dysport then Botox.
How It Works
The muscles of our face are responsible for facial expressions like frowning or smiling. As we age, the repeated contractions of these muscles along with other changes in the skin can result in the wrinkles. Botox and Dysport are carefully mixed, measured and injected into specific facial muscles. With continued treatments, these facial muscles can lose their strength and over time there is a softening. Many people use Botox & Dysport as a preventative measure to keep wrinkles from forming. Lastly, Botox & Dysport can be used to reshape and rejuvenate facial features. Everyone has asymmetry and by relaxing certain muscles, we can balance of face. An example of this is lifting the eyebrow or the corner of the mouth. Botox and Dysport injections are a quick and convenient treatment we offer at our Albuquerque location.
Before & After Photos
How To Prepare
Please stop any blood thinning medications like Advil, Aleve, Motrin, or Ibuprofen in addition to flax seed supplements, and fish oils, St, John’s Wart for 7 days prior to your treatment. We do our very best to inject in a way that minimizes bruising, however, we cannot guarantee that you will not bruise. Stopping these medications will help.
What To Expect
On the day of your appointment, you will meet with the nurse injector who will talk to you about the results you want to achieve. It is not uncommon for people to need 40-50 units of Botox. The nurse will take before and after photos – this is important because it helps us track the progress and results.
The nurse will wipe the areas of your face that are being treated with alcohol. She will draw up multiple syringes and then carefully make microinjections into specific muscles. After the treatment, the nurse will clean your face and apply arnica gel if needed. You are welcome to bring and apply make up after your treatment.
Over the next 3-9 days, the product will slowly take effect and you will notice a gradual change. The treatment will then gradually wear off over the course of 2-3 months. Some people have very fast metabolisms and process the product very quickly while others can go for months without needing another treatment.
It is important that you do not lie down or exercise heavily for 4 hours after your treatment. The reason for this is to prevent the product from migrating as it settles into the muscle. We will schedule you for a follow-up appointment in two weeks where we will take photos to see if we need to make any adjustments.
