Acne Scars Removal Albuquerque

Acne scars are the remains of inflamed blemishes / pimples. These blemishes occur when the follicle, or pore, becomes engorged with a “mixture” of excess oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. This mixture stresses the inside of the pore and can cause a break in the follicle wall. If the rupture occurs near the skin’s surface, the lesion usually heals quickly. However, deeper lesions are more serious as the “mixture” can spill out into the dermis. When this happens, it destroys the healthy tissue and can leave a scar.

To repair the damage, the skin needs to form new collagen. Collagen is a building block for youthful skin. Our bodies naturally produce it but as we age, we start to lose it. Around 30, our collagen production begins to decline. After age 30, our collagen level drops 1%-2% every year and by age 40, we have lost 10%-20% of our collagen.

Laser treatments are ideal for producing collagen because they force the body to shift into High Octane Collagen Production Mode. The PicoSkin laser is optimal when it comes to treating acne scars because the energy is delivered through pressure waves – not thermal energy. These pressure waves signal the body to create more collagen and repair the tissue in the dermis. People need 3-6 treatments scheduled every 2-4 weeks. The remodeling & healing happens gradually as the body initiates the healing process. Patients can expect to see improvements up to 6 months after their last treatment.

How It Works

The Pico laser is the future when it comes to treating melasma. This unique technology delivers energy into the skin using pressure waves, not thermal energy. With each pulse we are using pressure to pound the pigment into fine micro particles without damaging the surrounding tissue with heat. Since heat and melasma are “not” friends, using pressure waves to break up the pigment is extremely effective. We recommend starting with a package of 3 and following a consistent skin regimen. This combination therapy enables us to treat the pigment both above and below the top layer of skin.

How To Prepare

When you meet with one of our nurses during the consultation process, we will discuss some of the conditions that may trigger your melasma. Developing a skin care regimen with ingredients that will suppress these triggers is very important and the first part of your treatment plan.

Prior to your PicoSkin laser facial, it is important that you discontinue topical prescription medications 7 days before treatment (like Retina-A, Differin, Trilumen). It is important that you stop all tanning (spray and or sun) and keep the area being treated out of the sun at all times. If you are taking any oral medications, please advise the nurse.

What To Expect

Prior to every appointment, we will ask you to list all your medications—even if you have been taking them for years. This is very important. We want you to tell us everything when it comes to vitamins, supplements, hormones, etc…because some can make you sensitive to light. On the day of your appointment, we will ask you to remove your make up and the nurse will clean the area. You will be asked to wear protective eyewear and the nurse will start the treatment by cooling the skin and working across the area and making several passes. Some areas of the body are more sensitive so it is important that you inform the nurse if you need to take a rest.

After the treatment, we will clean the skin, apply Neocutis Hyalis, and Elta MD Sunscreen. We recommend that patients give their skin a rest and refrain from exercising for 24 hours. The area that was treated will be red and slightly puffy. This reaction is normal and will go down in 2-3 hours. Within 24-36 hours, your skin should be back to normal.

Post Care

It is important that you keep the area out of the sun – like “forever” out of the sun.
Heat and light can be triggers for Melasma so minimizing these triggers will be key to long-term success. We recommend that you wear a sunscreen like Elta MD everyday – your sunscreen must block UVA & UVB rays. If you have any questions, please call the Spa. You can request another copy of post care instructions at anytime.

Membership & Pricing

Save 15% by joining our membership or buying a package of 3 treatments. The package of three is ideal because you can schedule your treatments immediately which means you will see results faster.

Like the package, the membership option offers patients a 15% discount and three treatments. The difference is how quickly the treatments are scheduled. Members must accrue 2 months in payments prior to receiving a treatment. The results are the same, they just take longer to achieve.
